Hixson Pike Safety Improvements
The Department of Public Works is asking for public feedback for a proposed project to refresh the traffic lane markings and configurations on Hixson Pike between Tremont/Dorchester and Barton Avenue, an area known as the Riverview Town Center.
It's an opportunity to rethink how the road serves everyone—from daily commuters to the people who live and work in the immediate neighborhood.

Hixson Pike: Three Options
Option A
Reduce the number of lanes along Hixson Pike in both directions through the Riverview Town Center to accommodate additional parking and a buffer between vehicle lanes and sidewalks.
Option B
Reduce the number of lanes along Hixson Pike in the southbound direction through the Riverview Town Center to accommodate additional parking and a buffer between the southbound vehicle lane and sidewalk.
Option C
Extended southbound lane reduction to provide space for a sidewalk extension along Hixson Pike from E Dallas Rd to Westwood Ave.
Project Timeline
The Hixson Pike Feedback Project is currently in the Planning phase.
Once feedback is collected and a design is selected, the project will move into the study and final design stages. At that point, we will finalize the project timeline and update this page with a confirmed construction start date and estimated duration. We are committed to minimizing disruptions and will provide regular updates on traffic detours and milestones as the project progresses.
Project Budget
The cost of the Hixson Pike project will be determined by the options chosen by the public.

Take the SurveyAfter a year of collaboration with five neighborhood associations, we have a clear direction for safety improvements along Hixson Pike from Barton to Fernway. Recent survey data, which saw 1,760 visitors and 591 completed responses, showed that Option B is the community's preferred choice, as it maintains the Dartmouth turn lane.
