Heritage Landing Drive will officially reopen on March 25th!
Great news for the community: Heritage Landing Drive will officially reopen on March 25th! Our road crews are currently on-site retrieving barriers and removing detour signage to restore normal traffic flow. While the road is fully accessible, please note that final striping will take place in the near future; this work will be scheduled outside of peak hours to ensure it does not disrupt your commute.
You will still see construction machinery and personnel in the area as we transition to address a secondary issue in the Girls Preparatory School parking lot. This work is contained and should no longer impact the main roadway. We sincerely thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout this effort—it is exactly this sense of community that helps us move forward with the One Chattanooga plan.
Final Restoration Set to Begin
Following an on-site inspection yesterday, our team met to finalize the roadway restoration and verify the progress of the base layers. We are pleased to report that all underground work is complete: all piping systems have been tied in or retired as planned, and the entire area has been backfilled. The focus has now shifted to preparing the surface for final restoration.
We expect to begin paving within the next two weeks, weather permitting. Please note that the road will not open immediately after the asphalt is laid. Before the project is officially finished, we must complete roadway striping and a final "post-job walk" to ensure the highest quality product is returned to the public. Once complete, traffic patterns will resume as they were prior to the fix.
We are replacing the bridge's decking with durable Alaskan yellow cedar. The progress on the deck is currently:
- Completed: 1,203 linear feet (including Coolidge Park, Span 6, and most of Span 5).
- Remaining: 1,166 linear feet (Spans 1 through 4).
While we are moving quickly, April 15th remains the official date for all external inquiries to account for any potential weather delays. We appreciate your continued patience.
Weather Leads to Slight Setback
We continue to make significant strides towards our fall 2026 reopening! Here is the latest.
Following a minor weather-related setback last week, we are back on track with our infrastructure project. Recent heavy rains washed stone debris into the newly installed pipe, requiring contractors to manually clear the line. Protective measures have since been implemented at the pipe openings to prevent further debris entry during future rain events.
With the new system now clear, we are finishing the final connections to our existing lines and will begin the abandonment process for the old pipe this week. Once that phase is concluded, we will move immediately into site stabilization and backfilling. Weather permitting, we anticipate beginning paving operations within the next two weeks.
